Those surface-mount chips are more than twice as big as the new ball-grid-array chips. If the old board could have used BGA chips, it would have been 2/3rds its size or smaller! So, since we have to layout a new board anyway, might as well use the new BGA chips.... :) (Hopefully it'll give me the chance to pack a USB host chip on there....)
