At the advice of a friend, I sliced into the old battery pack with a
razor blade and de-soldered/removed the old cells. After this, the new
cells were soldered in and packed inside, sealing the whole thing up
with some sort of chemical that "welds" plastic (you might use epoxy or
something). If I recall, the cells come pre-charged and must be depleted
before attempting to recharge them with your Jornada power cord.

It is slightly a tight fit, but I have had no problems. I had help with
the soldering, and I advise that you do this AT YOUR OWN RISK; I don't
know what the potential safety hazards are (if there are any) or that
your Jornada won't be damaged (mine wasn't).
