Hmm, I little confused by what you mean here ... 

X_LIBS and X_CFLAGS and added in each of the Makefile.am's CFLAGS &
LDADD's so it should work ok ?

If you can send me a patch I may understand better what you mean. 

( damn autoconfuse ;-) )
