compile problems

Hi all,
I am a matchbox newbie and am trying to get it running on an old Toshiba laptop I have. I thought it would be a good solution to a very resource constrained machine (Pentium 120Mhz, 16Mb RAM, max resolution 800x600)

Unfortunately I am getting a compile error in the make stage. This error occurs while "Making all in src"

/usr/X11R^/lib/libXpm.so: undefined reference to '_xstat'
/usr/X11R^/lib/libXpm.so: undefined reference to '_fxstat'

I have tried replacing libxpm, the current version I have is xpm-3.4g.

I searched around on the net but all I could find was one guy who mentioned that it might be something to do with glibc. I am currently using XFree86-3.3.6 and glibc-2.1.92.

Thanks for any and all help you can provide,
regards,
James Fitzsimons
