If I understand you correctly, could you not just make your
configuration dialog a 'normal' window - eg dont specify to matchbox
its a dialog ? 

Alternatively size up the dialog to screen size, matchbox will let it
get close to be as big as a toplevel window or any size you want if
you run matchbox with ' -use_dialog_mode free' switch.
