problem in running gpe-setbg

Hi All,
    I have an small doubt about GPE.I am running GPE on my handheld 
(SIMPUTER). Most of the apps are working. when i  run gpe-setbg 
application i get this message  "Setting background to pixmap 00a00002" 
but i dont see any change in background.If i open any application say 
calender or calculator and close then i see the GPE LOGO. why is  this 
happening.Is this problem of matchbox or Xserver or GPE.
Can anybody give me some pointers..
