matchbox-desktop --bg color problem

Hi All,
       Am working on a 8bit depth(8bpp) board and am
using matchbox 0.8.2 . I use the matchbox-desktop --bg
options:  image.png to set the background image .But
the image does not get displayed properly .In my case
it displays it in blue and white.
Have tried this with all options like img-tiled,
centered, stretched on both .png and .jpg files but
with no luck 
The same image is rendered perfectly in a browser like
dillo. 
Does matchbox-desktop --bg option have issues running
on 8bit depth ?. Any comments will be appreciated.
