How to run matchbox-window-manger on redhat ?

hi, all

I am new to matchbox.  I am planning to use matchbox-window-manger 
on my computer (Redhat 8.0).  I have download  matchbox-window-manger
from ftp://ftp.handhelds.org/matchbox/sources/matchbox-window-manager/ 
and followed the procdeure in the INSTALL file to compile it.
A executable file ( matchbox-window-manager) is installed to /usr/local/bin.
But when I run it with command like "./ matchbox-window-manager -display /usr/X11R6/bin/X"
 on character terminal, I get the following error message:
"matchbox:can't open display!check your DISPLAY variable."

Can anyone please kindly tell me how to run matchbox-window-manger ?
Is there any how-to document to solve it ?
