Matthew, I sent a message about Xnest on GPE. As I haven't seen any
change in matchbox cvs since so I send it here too:

Perhaps people already know about this... I play with Xnest for a few
weeks but never figured out how to use the good keyboard map. I don't
remember who but someone asked me for the good Xnest switch for having
the good keyboard in Xnest. (for matchbox Xnest wrapper and also to be
able to test GPE on x86).

Thanks to Olivier Blin from MandrakeSoft, I understood that the +kb
wasn't the good switch to use.

The good command to always use the local X11 keyboard map correctly (en,
us, de, fr...):

  Xnest :1 -display :0 -ac -kb -geometry 240x320 &


Good thing to put on Wiki for GPE native testing or into Matchbox Xnest
wrapper.
