Hi all; Matchbox X11 Window manager 0.3 has been released and should now be available in the familiar unstable feed and in source form here [1]. The 0.3 release features greatly improved themeing, a new improved dock, freedesktop.org standards support, better xft support + much more. More information, screenshots and updated documentation ( read it! ) can be found here [2] Matchbox 0.3 is intended as a 'suck it and see' release._Alot_ of new features and functionality have been added, some of which you may like and some of which you may not. I need feedback on what you think so this can all be ironed out for the eventual 0.4 release. If you are running familiar unstable, please read the following carefully before you upgrade. 1> Matchbox uses a new docking mechanism, which is not compatible with the old ion style of docking. There for if you upgrade to Matchbox 0.3, you will also need to upgrade the following packages if you use them; xmonobut ( to 0.4pre1 ) mmenu ( to 0.7pre1 ) xstroke ( to xstroke-ma5_0.5.2 ) The xstroke is a patched version of xstroke ( it is not a fork! ). It features matchbox 0.3 style docking and IMHO a prettier docked app. 2> You should remove the mb-themes package if you have it installed. The newer matchbox is not compatible with these. 3> The Matchbox ipkg is available in 2 flavours. The default 'matchbox_0.3' is built with xft ( anti-aliased text ) support. Therefore it is recommended if you choose this that you have run the familiar postinst script and have some decent, dare I say it, ms fonts installed. The other ipkg is called matchbox-noxft, which supports just X core fonts. 4> Once the matchbox ipkg is installed. Its is recommended you run the finddockapps.sh [3], this will help populate your new docks popup menu. Its is also recommend you should disable any scripts that launch dockapps on X startup. The dock now does simple sessioning and will remember what apps it holds. See the documentation [2] for more info on this. 5> Now everything is installed, restart X. If you havn't already, now would be a good time to look at the docs [2] 6> Enjoy :) + remember you are running unstable so please dont expect everything to be perfect. 7> Find bugs - report them ideally via bugzilla, or direct to me via email. -- Matthew Allum [1] http://handhelds.org/~mallum/downloadables/matchbox [2] http://handhelds.org/~mallum/matchbox [3] http://handhelds.org/~mallum/downloadables/matchbox/finddockapps.sh
