Yes the errors seem to suggest that, but mb-desktop definetly shouldn't segv if none found :( I will investigate further - there should always be a fixed font available at least ( built into server ) and it should be able to fall back to that. I notice your are running with old style X core fonts ( e.g. not Xft ), I *highly* recomment rebuilding libmb with Xft support if possible.
