If the .xinitrc has just 'xterm', it runs xterm in more of a square than a
window.  :)  If I run "matchbox-window-manager" from this xterm, it just
freezes until I press ctrl-c.  If I run "matchbox-window-manager &", I get
my prompt back but I cannot type in it.  In fact, even a ctrl-c does
nothing.  I have to ctrl+alt+backspace to kick out of X to get control back.
