Here are the results of some tests: *** xterm & matchbox-window-manager --- X starts, cursor changes from 'X' to arrow, but no window appears. *** matchbox-window-manager & xterm --- Same as above. NOTE: this is the setting that the working image uses. *** xterm --- An undecorated 'window' gets drawn with my xterm session. If i run "matchbox-window-manager &" from it, I get the "[1] 126" telling me it is its own process and a prompt again, but it is totally frozen at this point. I need to ctrl+alt+backspace to kick out of to have control of the system again. *** This is on a CF card with a read-only filesystem, but still, the other less-reduced image works. I did go through and compare the two filesystems, and right now the only differences are (at least what I think are) differences in the base system. I realize this is a unique environment, so I was just hoping that by chance you had seen this before and remembered that 'oh, you need this file here' or something. If not, what are the next steps to debugging this? Is there a verbose output mode that can tell me more details of what is going on? The only error I get is one telling me that the XKEYBOARD keymap "Cannot open compiled/server-0.xkm" which is because of the read-only filesystem. The working image gives me the same message, so I know that this isnt the problem. Thank you for the help. Jordon Hofer Dir. Software Engineering AgSense LLC
