You'd want to compile your own X and trim it down to bare minimum.
Get rid of the modules and library you don't need.  There will be trials 
and errors
to get it right.

That is truly a mis-conception.  X is a separate application.  You can 
choose
any window manager you want.  You might want to look into the startx script
and xinitrc.
