Hello all,

due to the problems our users recently experienced while our master
mirror ewi was down, we decided to implement an apache-based
round-robin-type feed server which redirects the user transparently to
one of the active mirrors.

This has the advantage that a dead mirror can be removed quickly and as
long as the feed server is up, no user is going to notice any problems.
Also the generated traffic is spread among all mirrors evenly.

To demonstrate the effect, please visit feeds.hentges.net and reload
that URL a few times. It is currently configured to randomly select one
of two mirrors: ewi and hentges.net.

The plan right now is to add a CNAME of feeds.openzaurus.org to point to
feeds.hentges.net and ipkg.conf will be configured to use
feeds.openzaurus.org/$some_path.

This system is able to withstand multiple mirror failures and should
address the users concerns nicely.

However, we currently only have two active mirrors but would like to
have at least one or two more to reduce the traffic to these two
machines.

If you can push 10-20G (it's probably less) / month and have ~5G of free
HDD space, please let us know.
