the way to build/setup an original kernel

Hello,

Is Open Zaurus 3.4.5 consists of 2.6.14-rc1 kernel(zImage.bin)
and jffs2 filesystem image (initrd.bin), isn't it?
I'm trying to replace the kernel by the latest 2.6.x one in
Linus' git tree, because it contains xattr support in jffs2.

After success of cross building, I copied zImage.bin and initrd.bin
into CF card. Then, I followed the description at
http://wiki.openzaurus.org/C7x0/Install to set up the environment.
But it didn't work.
There is no responding after printing 'Rebooting the system...'

I hope to refer the kernel-configuration, building procedure
and seting-up procedure in Open Zaurus project to build/setup
correctly.
Would you tell me the address of hints for those matters,
If those are documented.

The followings are the environment of trial:
Hardware: Zaurus C750
kernel: Linus' latest git tree (2.6.17-git21).
config: arch/arm/configs/corgi_defconfig in this kernel
initrd: opie-image-3.5.4-c7x0.initrd.bin

Thanks,
