RP is me :). There is only one *critical* patch not in mainline:

That one works around what I suspect is an issue in the sharp
bootloader. With it applied, a mainline kernel will at least boot
although it won't work as well as our patched kernels (which add things
like sound drivers). The above patch isn't suitable for mainline (and
I/we don't entirely understand why this patch works).

Building with OE brings lots of advantages such as the correct
commandline options, a known good defconfig setup (the one in mainline
works but isn't ideal), sanity checking of kernel image size etc.

We have a linux-openzaurus_xyz+git.bb kernel in OE which will build the
latest Linus tree if you configure it correctly.
