Just a note to say that all my woes are solved (well, I haven't quite
got world peace nailed down yet :^>), and here's some info for the
archives.

I didn't have to fiddle with the volatiles file. All that needs be
done is to remove the /etc symlink & create a resolv.conf file there.
After that, the volatiles process won't overwrite it.
