I am working from vague memory from over a year ago so I could be wrong,
but I thought that although the code might not be a great amount that it
was in some hard worked code paths.

That would be awesome, as I try and cut down the number of machine
specific versions of mplayer around.

BTW I feel a bit guilty as you do all this work, do you want to be added
to MAINTAINERS file with an entry for mplayer.
