Sure, but you may have flashed only the kernel zImage over existing
gpe initrd, or the contrary... and if you had a previous install, that
may explain discrepancies between our two setups... It was just in any
case ;)

Hmmm... strange... because it works also well when on battery on my
machine...

There must be something different...

Have you got an SD card in the beast, maybe ? ... Here it works well
without (haven't tried yet with a SD card). The presence of a CF wifi
adapter won't change anything, btw.
