Development Environment & sources

Hello everyone.

I installed the development environment on my laptop and so far all is
working well.  My question relates to the sources directory.  Once the
package has been downloaded, do_configure, do_compile, etc has run, can
I delete the packages out of the sources?  I do have limited space and
want to keep as much available as possible.
