Errors when building anything.

Hello everyone,

I upgraded my laptop (HP Omnibook 6000).  It now has 512mb memory and a
60gb HD.  Prior to this (256mb/20gb), building anything worked fine.

I kept a copy of my local.conf and used that when setting up the new
installation.  This is what I get when doing bitbake <anything>:

The directory under build called tmp/staging does not exist.  That was
created when it last worked, I assume.
