It should really be named AltInit because it is an alternative init -- and choses one -- but not a boot loader. Once you booted a kernel, altboot just continues init from a different medium, it doesn't reboot or calls kexec -- which would maybe an option for later versions. With the dumb angelboot Sharp is using, you can't boot a kernel from anything else than the standard flash partition (exception: kexec, but that's technically not really a reboot).
