OE compilation doubts

Hi,

today I downloaded the OE suite to see how it works. I followed the
HOWTO on openembedded.org and downloaded ord.openembedded.oz354x module.

When I tried to "bitbake nano" (as per HOWTO) it started compiling, and
after 6 hours it is still there, sucking my P4 2.8 GHz power like a
leecher. :)

It started compiling a lot of other packages (libc, gcc, gettextm
autoconf, ...)

Is it normal?
