Absolutely normal, yes. On first build a lot of things need to be
built before the actual program you asked for. Remember that OE is the
*metadata* for building and "installing" OE doesn't give you a working
cross-compile environment. bitbake and OE will first build some tools
it needs, then a cross-compiler, then glibc, then cross-compiler
again, other cross compiling tools (binutils), then start working on
the build dependencies of the program you're compiling (libraries and
programs that it depends on).

This can take a long time for your first build (glibc is a beast) but
as long as you don't delete your tmp directory further builds will be
much faster as the main big stuff (the cross-compile environment) is
already built.
