Apologies for the hijack. Brain lapse.

To reiterate:

Somehow I managed to fluxor card services and now the
CF card, SD card & Wi-LAN card all show up as
"Anonymous Memory."

Here's the rundown:

On a separate box I reformat CF card FAT & copy
zImage.bin, updater.sh & initrd.bin to it's root.
(These files all checked out with MD5)

I stick the CF card in the 5600.
I reset the 5600.
I hold "OK" and "Cancel (On/Off)" and get the
Maintenance Menu.
I select "4. Update."
I select "2. CF."
I select "Yes" at the warning screen.

The unit brings up a SHARP splash screen with the
message "Please wait for approximately 2 minutes."

Then under the splash screen Appears:
"INIT: Ver 2.78 booting
modprobe: cannot locate module devinfo
INIT: entering runtime level: 5"

The screen clears and then displays:
"--- Zaurus CF Updater ---
CF card not found!!
error (1)
Rebooting
INIT: switching to runlevel: 6
INIT: sending processes the TERM signal
Rebooting the system..."

Then the screen clears and I get the typical Open
Zaurus heading with the mascot but that's it - it
hangs there with blinking cursor until it reset the
unit, pull the battery out and let it sit overnight.

Then I put the battery back in and start the unit
which boots as if nothing had happened; except that no
cards work.

It's a mystery to me.

The CF card reads on my XP box (only one I have with a
reader - Sager laptop) and I have update by flashing
with it in the past with no problem.

The SD card never showed as being in slot 1 even
though it was there & I could read/write to it with no
trouble at all.

BTW, I tried the same procedure as above with the SD
card to exactly the same effect - only with "SD"
substituted for "CF" in the messages.

If any more/other information is needed, I will try to
provide it. It's pretty much useless to me now.

Thanks in advance.
Dirk

SL-5600 running OZ 3.5.4 & Opie 1.2.1 under kernel 2.4.18
Ubuntu 6.06 on the desktop
