Thanks for the comprehensive reply. Justin Patrin wrote: > On 10/19/06, Michael Rozdoba <[email protected]> wrote: >> Please suggest alternatives to the following. There were too many bugs for my needs to make OZ/Opie usable last I tried. I'm hoping this has changed with the 2.6 kernel which I'll test again soon. FWIW In the past the suspend/resume issues, failure for alarms to wake the unit from sleep & the annoying screen rendering problem were not acceptable to me. I did follow dev for quite a while back when Bitkeeper was in use & built my own feeds but this was over a year ago iirc. >>> 2) pressure Sharp/Hancom to re-release their apps for OZ (not >>> likely) >> Quite, so forget option 2. >> >>> 3) switch back to the Sharp ROM so you can use these apps >> Hardly an ideal solution & not one that says much for OZ. > > It depends on what you want. It's a shame OE doesn't have more developers, but that's recognised, so no point harping on about it here. >>> 4) re-compile OZ without softfloat and try sharp-compat-libs >>> there >> Perhaps someone will offer unsupported binaries for such an option. >> Are those two conditions adequate for backwards compatibility or >> are there any other gotchas? >> > > It would be entire images and feeds. I realise, otherwise I might have done this myself for those occasionally asking (there's no way I could host such a beast anywhere). > hardfloat is not compatible with softfloat (which is what OZ is > using). At least with Tosa being VGA, GPE should offer a good solution, if bugs are tolerable now. Alarms failing from sleep were a killer for me & even the cosmetic only redraw bug specific to Tosa was sufficiently annoying I don't think I could put up with it - but cosmetic stuff bugs me (I like pretty & clean UIs).
