I've basically answered my own question. I grabbed the libcrypto and
libssl .so's for 0.9.6 out of the libssl0.9.6.deb for ARM and stuck  
them in
/media/card/usr/lib/half on my Collie. For my particular application,  
it was
just easier to do that than to argue with the DAV folks about why  
the ./configure
for the cadaver source is broken to specifically disallow cross- 
compiling (x86 to ARM).

So I can now successfully retrieve DAV events/documents onto my Z  
from a WebDAV server
elsewhere on our LAN.
