tosa/openzaurus 3.5.4 networking

Hi all,

I just installed 3.5.4 (GPE) on my tosa (SL-6000L).  I'm trying to get
connected to a network, any network, to see if it's going to work for
me...  I've tried various options, and nothing has really worked so far.

1.  Hotel wireless internet (I'm travelling for business right now):
requires a web browser to log in, the mini browser doesn't seem to
redirect well, so never lets me online.  I check the "I agree to the
terms" and click submit, then nothing happens.

2.  Wireless from my laptop.  I set an ESSID, mode ad-hoc, no encryption
on both devices, and reboot the tosa (didn't seem to work at all without
rebooting, based on iwconfig).  Never got an IP address from the DHCP
server on my laptop.  Same setup works for other laptops.

3.  USB ethernet to my laptop.  None of the various drivers in 2.6.18
recognize it.  I haven't spent too much time on this option.

4.  Wireless to my Netgear portable access point (WGR101 I think).  When
I tried this, there were more wireless networks around (which were
unencrypted, but MAC-restricted probably).  Setting the ESSID and mode
managed produced the same results as #2.

5.  I ordered a CF to PCMCIA adapter.  I plugged a Sierra Wireless
Aircard 860 into it, to try to create a ppp connection, but the zaurus
doesn't see the card.  On the laptop, it appears as a serial port
(/dev/ttyS2, serial_cs).  I manually inserted the serial_cs driver, but
still no luck.

6.  I ordered a CF wired ethernet card.  It hasn't arrived yet.  

I'd appreciate any and all suggestions!  I'm sure all of these should
work, but I'm doing something wrong or missing something.  Any pointers
would be helpful.
