Gnumeric and opie?

For various reasons, mostly because I run kopi, I need to use opie on my 
5600.  I can't seem to get gnumeric up and running.  I have xqt2 
installed, as well as xserver-common, pdm, and the various dependencies. 
  Here's the error:

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display

When I start xqt, I get a gray screen with the usual X near the middle, 
which doesn't respond.

So: 1.  is it possible to run gnumeric within opie?
2. Do I need to run it within xqt, and if so, how?
3. What's missing, relative to the Gtk error?
