Obviously you haven't read RMS on the LGPL http://www.gnu.org/licenses/why-not-lgpl.html I was hired by Trolltech because of my standing and work done in the community. I have worked on Opie since about a month after it was created. Thats about 4 years now. Before that, I created gpl qt and kde applications. You cannot really say I am insufficiently committed to the cause. I work as a liaison between Trolltech and the community. I am one voice inside the company to ensure Trolltech is listening. I am also a loud proponent for the GPL on both sides. My personal opinion is against the LGPL. Qtopia is released as GPL because the license assures it remains free. Truely free. Oh but wait. I see now that GPL isn't good enough for some in the open source community, one has to be able to create proprietary software for it to be considered good enough. > I've nothing whatsoever against Trolltech, their business model or the > QPL. Nokia is not the great liberator of all things free software. My point is, on the contrary, Nokia is going with the LGPL because of proprietary reasons. No, this is not FUD, which is fastly becoming an overused buzz word to create FUD of its own. -- Lorn 'ljp' Potter Trolltech Qtopia Community Manager Opie Core Developer http://qtopia.net _______________________________________________ http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/DeveloperWikiIndex Opie-devel mailing list [email protected] https://handhelds.org/mailman/listinfo/opie-devel
