Not sure where the other developers are going, but Qt4 is next for Opie, and 
at this point, it would be far easier to integrate Qtopia 4 changes than 
re-do all that work ourself (especially in light of the fact that virtually 
every other Opie developer has confessed to be more interested in Maemo at 
this point).
At the same time, get out the _fluff_ *cough*... and redundancy of 
functionality. Get back to a smaller, leaner, meaner and more easily 
maintainable code base.

Of course, _I_ see the best gui platform for linux embedded is Qtopia/Opie. 
There are quite a few years of professional development behind Qtopia, and 
Trolltech has been expanding it's engineering base to work on it.
