I am fairly sure the maemo platform was being hacked on with only the promise of devices. Qtopia _does_ have devices. You are NOT going to be running a lot of desktop applications on a pda. Its a pda! Thats one thing I think most linux people tend to forget about these devices (that and most development is not done for typical users, but for developers). Editing anything is painful on these, so realistically, you aren't going to edit your 100 slide presentation on your pda, nor are you going to write a 1000 word term paper. No matter what name you put on it -'tablet', or 'personal mobile tool', its still a frickin PDA! Use the tool thats right for the job. You aren't going to cut ceramic tiles with a jack hammer, why would you run desktop applications on a pda? Take the 770, for example. It does not have a working USB host, so you arent going to be able to plug in your keyboard. It doesn't have a hardware keyboard, so you will have to use the onscreen input method.
