You do not need oe build distribution to simply develop and translate for 
Opie..

Run the command make lupdate and make lrelease!

Any screenshots of texteditor being bad?

Yes, Opie can use ttf. It's known as 'freetype'. Simply select 'have 
freetype2' (you need freetype2 headers and libs) from the 'Dependencies' 
window (run make menuconfig in $OPIEDIR), then in 'Graphics and Multimedia' 
select 'opie-freetype'.
