Opie just doesn't recognize them. I was in the middle of putting together a patch to make them available (note the addition of vol+ and vol- icons in the head of the cvs repo). The only thing I have with the patch you sent is that it reroutes those buttons in the kernel, which is not something I am eager to do. If you agree I will continue to make the volume keys available in Opie and add QCop access in volumeapplet. Otherwise, I am reasonable, we can work out something between what you have in mind and what I have in mind. Thanks again!
