This patch should work for any familiar supported handheld. And familiar already sets up the sysconfig file for the graphical environment. I don't doubt that we need a better way to deal with bluetooth devices but we also need to be able to support devices now. I definitely see this patch being a good incremental step. What is the downside of applying this patch. I a less likely to apply it if I understand why I shouldn't.
