Paul,

to be future enabled you should think about using Openembedded, which
supports
different zauri and ipaq as well as lots of other systems. You only need
a bit of harddisk space (10GB)
and memory (>512 MB, >1GB better) and openembedded will provide you with
a self build toolchain
of the latest stable version and with a huge amount of software packages.

for installation and configuration hints. The later page was written by
myself and is meant
to describe my experiences. As it is focussed on Debian, you may have to
adapt the installation hints.
