This is the sleepiest mailing list. I'm inclined to think there's no interest 
in the project anymore.

Where'd everybody go?

I've always looked at OPIE as "KDE for my iPaq". Has everyone moved to some 
other QT-for-handhelds project? Everyone converted to GTK (ach)?

Anyway, Robert. OPIE is not the whole project. OPIE is to the base Linux 
system what X and KDE are to your desktop's Linux system.

In this case, most of us (I think!?) use as a base a Linux distribution for 
handhelds called Familiar. You can download a version of Familiar with OPIE 
or with . . . the GTK one, I forget what it's called.

But, for starters, you have to have an iPaq that is a supported device. You 
will need to look on the project web site and make sure your iPaq is 
supported. I see the following note:
" H51xx, H54xx, H55xx: The bootldr does not support the display or CF/PCMCIA, 
so the root images must be installed via serial port."

The Serial install is not too hard, I've done it before. You'll have to buy a 
serial cable for your iPaq, though.

When you  get to the download screen you'll be able to choose the stable 
release, your hardware, and the version of Familiar with OPIE.

I strongly suggest you look around the whole familiar web site and certainly 
read all the way through the installation docs before you start fiddling with 
your hardware. You want to have a good understanding of the whole process 
before you start.
