Right, I found the problem. The copy code was using the sendfile() function which apparently does not behave the same way under the 2.6 kernel as it did in 2.4. This explains why it worked on my h3970 (which is 2.4-based) and not on the h2210. I have checked this fix into CVS so I would suggest just increasing your OPIE_SRCDATE (see conf/distro/include/preferred-opie-versions-1.2.4-pre.inc). Alternatively you can hack up the patch I provide below as a temporary workaround.
