In KDE 3.5.7 the old KitchenSync (which included the "MultiSynk"
interface, yay for confusing naming) was replaced by a brand new
KitchenSync that uses OpenSync as a backend. AFAIK this should already be
integrated into Kontact if it is installed or can be run as a separate
application, just as with MultiSynk.

MultiSync (the GTK-dependent one) is dead - it has basically been replace=
d
by OpenSync. OpenSync definitely does support Opie and KDEPIM (ie,
Kontact) - in fact I wrote most of the Opie plugin and continue to
maintain it. I can't tell you anything about package availability in
Kubuntu Gutsy (or many other distributions) though, and the problem is
that even then the latest stable OpenSync release (0.22) which is all tha=
t
most distributions can really package is getting rather old now and
definitely does have some limitations. The OpenSync team is working hard
on getting the next stable release (0.40) ready at the moment.

If you are brave and have time you are welcome to try compiling and
testing the latest 0.3x development version of OpenSync or even the lates=
t
code from the OpenSync Subversion repository (don't forget to back up you=
r
PIM data first!). Support for the Opie side is much better there than in
0.22, but there may be bugs. I would appreciate help in testing, and am
happy to receive bug reports and provide assistance.
