It sounds to me like for whatever reason, Opie is in some cases seeing a mouse device and in other cases not. Normally with a touchscreen, the cursor is not supposed to be shown. It would be great if you could enable Opie debug messages[1] and then send me the output (if possible covering when the mouse cursor is shown/touchscreen rotated, and when everything is normal).
