I bought the full version of and sync Pocket Informant with my gmail calendar. I have not ever had a problem with doing this. I do sync the palm desk top with outlook. The paid version has icons if you want to use them. Pocket Informant is not as good as DateBk6 but, for now it is as close as we can come using the iPhone. I have attached the reference guide for you to look at. I do not link contacts myself.

I see no evidence that you can link a Contact to an Event in Pocket
Informant for the iPhone. Also doesn't sound like you can change its
default time slot.
