I think you'll find that, in general, there's much chatter on the web
about the short-comings of calendaring software (regardless of
platform/OS).

I went Android early this year, and haven't looked back -- it was
scary, but I managed to kick the Palm habit.

It does leave a gap, though -- but Android is probably one of the
better supported platforms.  What's nice about Android is that the
"sync with Google" is built-in in almost any calendar (or any other
app, for that matter).  I've an iPad, and have been somewhat shocked
at what passes there as a calendar (or web browser, or ...).

I've been giving Gemini Calendar a whirl on the Android (after running
through quite a few - including Pure), and it's a pretty close
candidate as well -- though development on it has been stagnant the
last few months.  Just this morning I started giving Pocket Informant
a run (there's a free beta right now), and it looks hopeful with it's
ability to use Templates, and managing a To-do list as well (though
that is integrated with Toodledo, not with Google's Todo - but
Google's is pretty useless).  Gemini, and many others, fall down in
integration between the calendar, contacts, and the address
characteristics (oddly, many do fine with the phone and email
integration, but I'd expect calendar locations to be integrated with
google maps on a phone with a GPS) -- dont even worry about icons;
many, many others things are much more fundamentally flawed.

I'm hoping that Pocket Informant will get close -- and I'll probably
now look at Jorte.

I had, at one point, a Nokia N810; but that (frankly) left me with a
bit of a bad taste in my mouth about Nokia's approach to Maemo (much
lip service to open, but very little acceptance of user contributed
code), and their app-store/Ovi-thingy was pretty bad.  Symbian doesn't
look like it's going to be around long -- they've been waffling on the
"open" thing back and forth -- looking (to me) like a death-rattle
before they go belly up.  I've never used Symbian, but haven't heard
anything good about it in years.

Given the "state of the union"; CESD should have a clear run at market
domination if he gets a calendar program out that has a clean UI, and
integration on the level of DateBk6 (I've not done much with Pimlical;
since I don't run Windows on any machine I take seriously).   But at
this point, I want clean integration between the normal elements
(calendar, to-do, floats) and a mobile devices' external components
(phone, maps, etc) as well as the usual other databases I carry around
(contacts).
