RE: New event in Android datebook won't sync to gmail calendar

This is true for Android contacts as well. I learned the hard way. I
couldn't figure out why my new contacts weren't showing up on my google
contact list. I had to recreate them in the google list too.

Then I created a YouTube login and THAT became another item on the list:
Sim, Phone, gmail, YouTube. It's hard to remember to save to gmail each
time, I wish there was a way to default to that, but I can't find it.

In the phone/contact app, there is a Group selection, and it will tell you
how many records are in each list. There should be 0 for all groups except
for your google group. Unless you have records you don't WANT to be on
google. Or the records that come standard on the phone.

calender

When you create a new event, there is a drop-list named Calendar. Tap
that and you should find listed, in addition to PC Sync, the names of
your Google (Gmail) calendars. Pick one.
In addition, with a calendar displayed, tap Menu>More>Calendars.
You should find displayed your calendars, and you can uncheck PC
Calendar. If you only have one Gmail calendar.
