Disappearing entries

I am a long time user of Palm.  It stopped working a couple of years ago and I was content with the desktop version for my calendar and contacts.  I just got a Nexus 7 tablet and was excited to see I could download an Android version as well as a desktop version of datebk and make my tablet like my Palm!  :)    

I went to Google Play and downloaded and installed the version on my tablet.   I feel so stupid, though.  I cannot get the few entries I have made on the calendar to stay--when I do something else and go back to the datebk it does not contain the entries I made.  What am I doing wrong?  It is probably so simple.  I have read through the manual and can't seem to figure out what I am missing.
