questions from Palm Datebk user considering moving to Android

I've been a Datebk user from circa 2000 (Palm IIIc, Sony Clie, and I'm on my second Tungsten T|X) and am considering moving to the Android platform now that I have my Galaxy Note 3. 

I've been reading some of the threads here but am still a little hesitant to make the switch because I want to be sure I don't lose any data or functionality. I'm hoping to get reassurance and/or warnings from y'all.

I don't want to lose any of my calendar stuff (and I have lots of appointments, events, templates, etc.) or contacts. If I am careful to follow the procedure in the manual's appendix, will I be okay? (Procedure looks complicated, and I've been using computers since mainframe days and have made it through CP/M, DOS, and Windows.)

What happens if I have a contact in my phone and information for the same contact in DateBk? The phone contacts mainly have phone numbers and the occasional email address. The contacts in DateBk include a lot more info. Will these "merge" gracefully?
