I used my Treo with Vista for more than 2 years with no problems, I
upgraded to the latest version of Palm Desktop and went about my business.
I am a pixi owner now, and while I agree with you that Palm has shot
themselves in the foot many, many times, I am up and running with a palm
pixi, I wish I could go to the motorola droid now.  I left Motorola
phones for the Treo, and have always missed them, I love Motorola
products, I even thought about going back from a treo a couple of months
ago to a razor and my Palm TX.
