Thanks very much for that tip.
Although I need to hard reset my TX for short terms repair purposes, a 
secondary long range goal was to get also my extensive HS database off 
my aging/ problematic Palm TX so I will eventually be able to import it 
to some ... as yet undetermined ... shopping list app. on an iPhone.

I think finding a suitable iPhone app. will take some time and 
experimentation but I want to be sure to have a copy in case my TX 
completely fails suddenly.

 From what you describe, I won't be taking a copy of the DB ... I will 
be moving it permanently to the card with some small sacrifice of 
operation.

Two further questions:
Is there no way to just make a copy?  (Could I move the DB to the card, 
make a copy using my computer and then move it back to the TX in order 
to accomplish that?)

The TX's email no longer works so it seems this is the best way to 
accomplish my goal of getting a usable copy of the DB off the TX.  Is 
there a better way for my two purposes ... primary and secondary?
