Porting HS from Palm to WM originally took 6 months to get a beta working, and almost a year to get the first official release ready.

Windows Phone 7 would be similar, 6-18 months probably.  It is a completely different platform than Windows Mobile was.  The trickiest part, though, is how to enable installing your old databases, and backing them up somewhere.  As a hobbyist, I am not going to create and fund a web service for that, so it becomes quite a tricky proposition for a hobbyist programmer like me in the current incarnation of the Windows Phone (it only syncs certain kinds of document files with your PC -- anything else has to be custom sync code with "the cloud").  I would guess that will change sometime in the future, but I couldn't guess when.

Realistically I'm not working on HS for WP7 at this time.

Again, though, the database source code is already Public Domain.  So any sufficiently motivated and skilled programmer could make a HandyShopper compatible program and charge for it.  I.e. any requests to make it "open source" have already been fulfilled in every practical way:  the data format source code is already Public Domain (which has much fewer strings attached than "open source" does), the only code not publically available is the UI code, which is useless anyway since 100% of it would have to be completely rewritten in a completely new and different platform.
