If you don't have a touch screen, and you need to change the width of a column, the other way is to use the HS3Convert tool.

It sounds like you tried to do that via HS2Util.  I don't think HS2Util always detects when the HS3 database version is incompatible with HS2Util (i.e. when HS2Util isn't up to date with the latest HS3 database format).  If HS2Util doesn't fully understand the latest HS3 database format version, then it could corrupt the database when trying to make modifications to it.  I don't know whether the latest HS2Utils fully understands the latest HS3 database format.
